Short answer: for most families, the 2026 Elf Kit is the better buy. It costs $124.95 against the 24-Day Magical Elf Kit's $59.95, but it covers four more days, includes a 22-inch inflatable hot air balloon, and sizes up to three children and three elves, with four optional Elf Magic bundles. The 24-Day Magical Elf Kit wins only on its lower entry price — $59.95, down from $89.00 — and suits one-child, one-elf families wanting the classic December 1 to Christmas Eve countdown. Neither kit includes an elf doll, so whichever you buy, your own elf does the visiting. For the full breakdown of the kit we recommend, read our full 2026 Elf Kit review.
We have not hands-on tested either kit. Everything here comes from Elf Kit Shop's own pages at elfkitshop, checked November 1, 2026; all prices are USD. Elf Kit Shop is an independent props shop, not the official Elf on the Shelf brand.
The price gap: $124.95 against $59.95
Short answer: the 2026 Elf Kit starts at $124.95 and the 24-Day Magical Elf Kit costs $59.95 — a $65 gap that buys four extra days, the hot air balloon, and room to grow.
The 2026 kit starts at $124.95 for one child and one elf with no bundle, up to $274.95 across 40 variants. The 24-Day kit has one variant at $59.95, down from a $89.00 compare-at price on its page at elfkitshop.
Per day, the cheaper kit wins on paper: about $2.50 a day against $4.46. The extra $65 buys coverage and scale: four more days, the balloon, arrival and departure letters, and sizing for more children and elves instead of a second kit. Shipping is calculated at checkout for both.

Four more days — and a different start date
Short answer: the 2026 Elf Kit gives you 28 days starting right after Thanksgiving, while the 24-Day kit gives you the traditional 24 days from December 1 to Christmas Eve — and the 2026 kit can be used as a 24-day kit too.
The 2026 kit is built for 28 days, starting right after Thanksgiving. The 24-Day kit is built for the traditional countdown: one activity a day from December 1 through Christmas Eve.
The 2026 kit can also run as a 24-day countdown: the maker's page says you can start December 1, use one activity a day through Christmas Eve, and mix and match or skip days when the family gets busy. You get 28 activities and can run 24, keeping four spare. The 24-Day kit has no spare capacity: 24 activities for 24 days, nothing in reserve for the night the elf cannot appear — and most families forget to move the elf at least once.
The hot air balloon: the one prop the 24-Day kit cannot match
Short answer: the 2026 Elf Kit includes a 22-inch inflatable hot air balloon with a basket the elf rides in, and nothing on the 24-Day kit's page offers anything like it.
Every elf kit needs one scene the children remember; for the 2026 kit, that is the balloon. The kit's full name is "2026 Elf Kit – 28 Days with Hot Air Balloon, Props and Games", and the maker's product photo shows it: a 22-inch inflatable balloon in red and green with snowflakes, carrying elf dolls in a green-and-white checked basket, captioned as included with every Elf Kit.

The 24-Day kit has no equivalent. Its page lists 24 individually packed daily activities and scenes, and its product photo shows the contents laid out — a board game labeled Elfopoly, a stocking, a sleigh, and other small props — but no single large showpiece. That is a different design, not a flaw: 24 small surprises against 28 days plus one big one.
What is inside each day
Short answer: both kits give you one individually packaged, labeled activity per day with setup instructions, but the 2026 kit adds separate scene and instruction cards, setup photos, and arrival and departure letters.
Day to day, both work the same way: one labeled packet per day. The difference is how much help you get at 10 p.m. The 2026 kit puts the scene card and setup instructions on separate cards — added this year, the maker says, to make setup easier — plus setup photos, Arrival and Departure letters, and printable materials. Games and small prizes appear on select days.
The 24-Day kit provides a full-color brochure with photos and setup instructions, and says all setup materials are included with no extras required. Its activities are described as silly pranks, creative scenes, heartwarming messages, and mini games, with prizes and games sprinkled throughout. Neither page lists activities day by day.
One child or the whole family
Short answer: the 2026 Elf Kit is built for up to three children and three elves, while the 24-Day kit is designed for one elf and one child — and that is where the price gap starts to make sense.
This decides the purchase for larger families. The 2026 kit has 40 variants: eight size options — 1 to 3 children and 1 to 3 elves, plus Two Full Sets — and four optional bundles. On the base size, bundles add $25 (A, Essential), $40 (B, Door), $35 (C, Reindeer Pet), $45 (D, Ultimate); the priciest combination, 3 children and 3 elves with Bundle D, is $274.95.
The 24-Day kit has one size: 1 elf and 1 child, some activities shareable. The maker's note is direct — for multiple children or elves, order the appropriate number of kits. Two 24-Day kits cost $119.90, only $5.05 less than one base 2026 kit at $124.95, and still give you no balloon, no letters, and no spare days. For a one-child, one-elf household, the 24-Day kit is exactly the right size, and the 2026 kit's extra capacity goes unused.

The elf doll question: neither kit includes one
Short answer: neither kit includes an elf doll — both pages say so plainly — so you use the elf you already own, and Elf Kit Shop is a props shop, not the official Elf on the Shelf brand.
This is the fact most likely to catch a buyer out. The 2026 kit page says it three times: in the opening paragraph, as a standalone line, "*** Elf doll NOT included ***", and in its own FAQ, which asks "Is an Elf doll included?" and answers "No." The 24-Day kit page says it in its list of what is inside: "Elf not included — designed to be used with your existing elf."
Both kits are built around an elf you already own — the 2026 kit is described as designed for any standard Christmas elf doll, including the Elf on the Shelf® doll. Without one of your own, neither kit is complete. Elf Kit Shop is a third-party props shop, not the company behind Elf on the Shelf. Nothing on either page claims the kits are official, affiliated with, or endorsed by Elf on the Shelf or its maker, The Lumistella Company. Compatible, according to the maker, is not the same as affiliated.
Which one should you buy?
Short answer: buy the 2026 Elf Kit for most families — the extra days, the balloon, and the multi-child sizing are worth the extra $65. Buy the 24-Day kit only when the budget is fixed at $59.95 and there is one child and one elf.
Choose the 2026 Elf Kit ($124.95 and up) if:
- You want the longest countdown — 28 days, or 24 from December 1 with four spare.
- You want the 22-inch hot air balloon as the season's showpiece scene.
- You have more than one child or elf and want one kit for the household.
- You want the letters, the separate scene and instruction cards, and the setup photos.
Choose the 24-Day Magical Elf Kit ($59.95) if:
- The budget is fixed at $59.95 — less than half the 2026 kit's starting price, about $2.50 a day.
- There is one child and one elf, and the classic December 1 to Christmas Eve countdown is what you want.
- You are happy with 24 small daily surprises and do not need a headline prop or spare days.
For most families, the 2026 Elf Kit is the buy: the extra days, the balloon, and the multi-child sizing are real differences, not packaging. The 24-Day kit earns its place only on price and simplicity. See the current price in our review — read our full 2026 Elf Kit review.
Frequently asked questions
Short answer: price, the elf doll, the day count, and two children — answered from the maker's own pages.
How much does each Elf Kit Shop kit cost?
Short answer: the 2026 Elf Kit starts at $124.95 and runs to $274.95 across 40 variants, while the 24-Day Magical Elf Kit costs $59.95, marked down from a $89.00 compare-at price.
It depends on size and bundles: the base is $124.95 and the priciest combination is $274.95. The 24-Day kit has one variant at $59.95. Shipping is calculated at checkout for both.
Does either kit include an elf doll?
Short answer: no — neither kit includes an elf doll, and both product pages say so.
The 2026 page states "*** Elf doll NOT included ***"; the 24-Day page says "Elf not included — designed to be used with your existing elf." Both are designed for any standard elf doll, including the Elf on the Shelf® doll. Without one of your own, buy it separately.
How many days does each kit cover?
Short answer: the 2026 Elf Kit covers 28 days, and the 24-Day Magical Elf Kit covers 24 days.
The 2026 kit runs 28 days from after Thanksgiving, but can also run as a 24-day countdown from December 1, leaving four activities spare. The 24-Day kit covers the traditional countdown only, with no spare days.
Which kit should I buy for two children?
Short answer: the 2026 Elf Kit, because it can be sized for two children and two elves in a single kit, while the 24-Day kit would need two kits.
The 2026 kit covers up to three children and three elves in one kit. The 24-Day kit is built for one elf and one child, so two children need two kits at $119.90 — only $5.05 less than one base 2026 kit, and still with no balloon, no letters, and no spare days.
